DEFECT · BOX DENTS
Funko Pop dent grading.
Dents are not the same as corner whitening. They affect different subgrades and are evaluated by size, depth, and which face they appear on.
Dent severity by location
Top / bottom of box — less visible during display. Drops Edges by 0.5-1.
Side (left/right) — visible from the shelf. Drops Edges by 1-2.
Front / back face — most visible. Drops Surface by 1-2, with overall capped at 8-8.5.
Crossing a corner — counts against BOTH Edges and Corners. Compound deduction caps at 7-8.
Dent severity by size
Pinprick (< 2mm) — half-point deduction at most.
Small (2-5mm) — single-point deduction. 9 ceiling.
Medium (5-10mm) — 8.5 ceiling.
Large (> 10mm) — 8 ceiling at best, often 7-7.5.
Dent + fold — auto-cap at 7.
FAQ · funko pop dent grading
Asked & answered.
How much does a small dent lower a Funko Pop grade?
Depends on location. A pinprick dent (<2mm) on the top of the box may drop the grade only 0.5. A 5mm dent on the front face caps the overall grade at 8.5. A dent crossing a corner caps at 7-8 because it counts against both Corners and Edges subgrades.
Where on the box do dents hurt the grade most?
Front and back faces hurt most because they're the display surfaces. Top and bottom dents hurt least because they're rarely visible. Side dents fall in between. A dent crossing a corner is the worst case — it triggers deductions on two subgrades.
Is Popinspect an official grader?
No. We are pre-grade intelligence — we predict what PSA, CGC, or Beckett are likely to grade your Pop. The official grade still comes from them. We just make sure you only ship the ones worth shipping.
