DEFECT · DISPLAY WINDOW
Funko Pop window scratches, graded.
The clear plastic over the figure is part of the Surface subgrade — and graders score it harshly. Here's how scratches, clouding, and cracks each affect your final grade.
What counts as a window defect
Hairline scratches — catch light at an angle. Common from store-shelf abrasion. Drop Surface by 0.5-1.
Clouding / hazing — usually age-related (10+ years). Caps Surface at 9.
Cracks — auto-caps overall grade at 8.5. Visible crack = 8 ceiling.
Window misalignment — pushed in or pulled away from the box. Surface drops 0.5 if visible.
How to inspect a Funko Pop window
Hold the box under a daylight bulb at a 30-45° angle. Slowly tilt — scratches show as silver lines that move with the light. Clouding shows as a milky cast across the whole window. Hairline cracks show as dark threads, usually radiating from the corners or center.
FAQ · funko pop window scratch grading
Asked & answered.
How much does a window scratch lower a Funko Pop grade?
Hairline scratches drop the Surface subgrade by 0.5-1 point. Clear scratches visible from arm's length drop Surface by 1-1.5. Multiple parallel scratches drop Surface by 2 or more. A crack of any size caps the overall grade at 8.5.
Can I polish out window scratches before grading?
Light polishing of acrylic windows is possible but very risky — over-polishing creates new haze that graders score as clouding. Most attempts make things worse. Pre-grade first; if scratches are minor, submit anyway — if severe, sell raw.
Does window clouding hurt the grade as much as scratches?
Yes, often more. Hairline scratches localize to one area; clouding affects the whole window. PSA caps Surface at 9 for any visible clouding. CGC is slightly more forgiving — they'll go to 9.5 if clouding is uniform and the rest of the Pop is exceptional.
Is Popinspect an official grader?
No. We are pre-grade intelligence — we predict what PSA, CGC, or Beckett are likely to grade your Pop. The official grade still comes from them. We just make sure you only ship the ones worth shipping.
